Centre Manager's Message
By Jess Wild, Centre Manager
It's been a busy few months around the centre what with Careers Expo, Roma show, Night for Health and visits from some of the Queensland Universities to talk to locals about opportunities they can offer remote students. We were also lucky to join with SWHHS Ed-LinQ to visit some of our local small schools, providing some puppetry skills for the Birdie's Tree reading program. The wonderful staff and students at Begonia SS, Arcadia Valley SS and Bymount East SS were extremely welcoming, expressing interest in having future education placement students and providing a plethora of amazing career aspirations. So if you're an education student, considering placement in the Maranoa, don't forget to look into some of our small schools.
We are also excited to announce the funding approval from the Regional Partnership Project Pool Program (RPPPP) grant application as part of the 2 year Eastern Australia Regional University Centre Partnership (EARUCP). This funding will result in the establishment of community lead outreach and widening participation activities to support building aspirations and increasing participation in higher education. Only two projects were successful in this application, to be one of those chosen is a testament to the commitment and work put in by our Maranoa community, local schools, university partners and staff at CUC Maranoa.
Exams and final semester assessments are now upon us - GOODLUCK!! May the odds be ever in your favour :)

Queensland CUCs Meetup
A new CUC for Queensland has just open their doors in Cooktown. We were lucky to have Marley from CUC Cape York come to visit us here in Roma to have a look at our facilities.
Both Marley and Jess, our own centre manager, then got a chance to go to St George and Dirranbandi to meet up with Alix and Sam from the Balonne CUC to have a look at the centres there.
This was a great opportunity for the three Queensland centres to get to know one another and discuss ideas and solutions to problems facing remote higher education students and what our centres can do to support them.

As we approach the end of the semester, the centre students have been busy with exam preparation and final assessments. Just remember our LSAs are here if you need any assistance with your studies. They have been holding and will continue to hold drop in sessions and workshops focusing on exam prep to help you out during this time. Don't forget we also have offices available to be booked for any online exams you may need done, so don't forget to book an office as soon as you know your exam dates. If there are no offices left to book on the day you need to do your exam just let any of the staff know and we will be able to sort you out.
Congratulations to our LSA Kat, who just had her 3rd baby and her first boy, Henry.
Kat will be back with us from June onwards.
Uni Info Night
Big thanks to Griffith University, University of Queensland and University of Southern Queensland who came to the Maranoa CUC. They spoke to those in the community interested in further education and who wanted to find out about coming to uni and the study options available to students in the Maranoa.
Night for Health
Students studying or looking to study in the health field had a chance to meet up and talk to fellow students as well as our local SQRH staff and the people from University of Southern Queensland about their study options.
The CUC Maranoa will be turning 2 in June.
Come and join us here at the centre on the 13th June at 10am for a morning tea to celebrate this acheivement!
Careers Expo & Roma Show
We were lucky enough to join in with other local career stalls at this years Careers Expo.
To see all our amazing stall holders who provided plenty of opportunities for the community to begin thinking about their future careers was amazing.
It was great to see the community and surrounding school students out and about and interested in their future's/career's!
The next day we then went to the Roma show with our stall to talk to everyone in the local community about how we can assist them in their tertiary education.
What's New Around the Centre.
As you can see, we have added a new website for our students to access that contains helpful links and info, as well as our newsletters and local job opportunities.
As we develop this site we will be adding more resources that will be helpful for students with their studies, so watch this space!
Changes to Printing
As many of you are aware, we are currently working with the Commonwealth Government to confirm our ongoing funding for the Centre. It is unfortunate to report that we will have to limit some of our activities. We are asking students to help us lower our printing volume by introducing a printing limit beginning the start of July.
Printing will still be free of charge, however there will be a limit of 300 pages per student per semester (6 months). Above this limit will incur a fee of 10c per page. Should you have any queries regarding this or to discuss your printing limit, please see any of our staff to help.
Now when you print you will be asked for a PIN. Just use the 3 digits on the bottom of your access card that are also used for your WiFi password. (So if your password is CUC123 your PIN will be 123). Those of you who have older cards which don't have your WiFi password on the bottom of your card will be sent an email with your PIN or you can ask one of the staff who can let you know.
We have now made a catalog of all our text books that we have available in our centre that are available for students to borrow.
You can search for a specific book by name or use one of the tags to search for certain topics of books.
