Centre Manager's Message
By Jess Wild, Centre Manager
We’ve made it to the end of another year, if this was your last semester at CUC Maranoa – CONGRATULATIONS!
We hope you’ve enjoyed your time studying at CUC Maranoa, you should be extremely proud of the hard work and dedication you’ve put in. It was wonderful to celebrate so many of you in person at our annual Celebration of Graduation event.
We’ll be wrapping up the year at the Roma Xmas Street Party – where you’ll find us at the Decorate a Gingerbread Man stall.
We have many great things coming up at the start of next year, from our Yr12 Leaver QTAC Party to our Welcome BBQ and LSA Kickstarter sessions. Can't wait to see those of you who are rejoining us next year as well as getting to meet new students beginning their study journey.
Have a great Christmas and New Year from all of us at CUC Maranoa!
Celebration of Graduation
This year we were excited to have 11 of our 36 graduating local students join us for our Celebration of Graduation event, where we got to celebrate their success.
It was an amazing night where the friends and families of the graduates as well as our sponsors - Origin Energy, Santos, Powerlink Queensland and Maranoa Regional Council got together with us and other friends of CUC Maranoa to honor those local students who completed their studies.
Some highlights were seeing all the graduates able to take photos with their family and friends as well as watching those in attendance clapping and cheering each graduate as they received their certificates.
It was great to see students, some of who have been with us since we opened in 2021, have their hard work pay off.
Congratulations to all students who graduated this, whether you were able to make it to the celebration or not, and we hope you have great success in your future!
I Dream of Being...
Children's Book Illustration Competition
High School Career Discovery
Level Up Your Future!
CUC Maranoa together with Maranoa Regional Council are publishing a children's book of illustrations made by students in Yr 3-6 in the Maranoa.
The drawings will be of occupations that the students dream of being when they grow up.
Our high school career discovery project, Level Up Your Future is kicking off in 2024. This project is aimed at students grades 6-9 and hopes to help students discover a wider range of career options that are available to them when they finish high school.
With our partners from UniSQ, Griffith and CQU we hope to encourage local students to explore career pathways that they may not have thought to explore or thought were perhaps unachievable.
This is to help children start to think about their future aspirations and encourage young students in our community to dream of bigger things.
The start of 2024 will see us visiting local schools to talk to students and get some awesome artwork for our book.
The drawings will be judged by some of our community members and the best will be published in a book as part of book week.
What's Happening Around the Centre.
Laura was born and raised in the small town of Gisborne, New Zealand. Raised on a sheep and cattle farm, Laura's early exposure to rural life fueled her eagerness to explore the world. Her journey began with a diploma in beauty, after which she embarked on an exciting career, which lead the pathway to work on cruise liners and super yachts.
Welcome to our new Widening Participation Officer, Laura!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
The Centre will be unstaffed from Saturday 23rd December until Tuesday 2nd January. Card access will still be available, however, from 5am till 12am like normal.
We wish all our students and friends a great Christmas and New Year and look forward to seeing you all again next year!
Laura decided to anchor herself in Australia and delve into the study of natural health therapies. She discovered her passion for teaching, particularly in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. Here, she found fulfillment in guiding students to unearth their strengths and excel in their chosen paths.
Following her husband's work, Laura and her young family have now moved to Roma, where she humorously observes that "the grass is a little less greener than NZ." Embracing the tight-knit community of Roma, Laura and her family have found a sense of belonging. Balancing the roles of a devoted mother, business owner, and now Widening Participation Officer, Laura wholeheartedly embraces the commitments of life in Roma.
If you see Laura around the centre, make sure you stop to say hello to make her feel welcome.
