Centre Manager's Message

Welcome back to Semester 2!
We are super excited for some upcoming activities for students this Semester...
Nights for Networking are here! You may have been to one of our student networking evenings before, so you would recall the fun nibblies, beverages and good company.
Well this time we are inviting local industry and community organisations involved in each of our faculty areas to join the networking fun.
So expect to be able to mingle with professionals within your field of study, prospective employers and local community connections. We have received great positive feedback from the community around this initiative and hope to continue building student-industry connections throughout the Maranoa each year. Of course these nights are only successful with your participation, so please pop in to your faculty networking night, grab a bite to eat and enjoy some relaxed conversations with local groups here at CUC Maranoa.

Have you heard? CUC Maranoa is looking for a Widening Participation Officer. This is a casual role that will easily fit around your studies. Over the course of this 2 year pilot, you will be co-designing and implementing a careers discovery program with our university partners and local Roma schools. This is a project officer role, with no qualifications required.

Nights for Networking
Celebration of Graduation
To celebrate all of this years local graduates, we will be holding a dinner at Roma Explorers Inn on the 23rd November starting at 5.30pm.
It's a great chance to celebrate those students who have successfully completed their studies and who may be going on to bigger things
We will be sending invitations closer to the date with instructions of how to acquire tickets to the event.
In the next couple of months we will be hosting networking evenings for students and local professionals to get together and talk in a casual setting. It is also an opportunity for potential employees to meet local employers and vice versa.
There will be three events - one for the health/mental health industry, one for education industry, and one for everyone else.
Dates for each event are as follows:
Night for Health Networking Thur 7 Sept
Night for General Networking Wed 13 Sept

It was a joy to have the year 12 students from St John's and year 11 from Roma State College visit to see the centre and see what we can do for them in their future studies.
They got the chance to talk to Jess our centre manager about their futures and ask questions about life after high school.

Office Bookings Cancellations
Often times offices are booked out but never used. We understand that life can sometimes get in the way of your studies and that means you are unable to make it to the centre where you have booked an office to use and that it's easy to forget to cancel the booking with everything else on your plate. Unfortunately that means people are missing out on using the offices when you forget to cancel. As such we are bringing in the policy of cancelling any office booking if the person hasn't arrived with in 30mins of the booking start time so other students may use the offices.
What's New Around the Centre.
As we have a double up of text books that are already available in our library, we are giving away copies to any students interested in having a copy for themselves.

We now have kits available for health students going on placement, that can be borrowed from the centre.
