Centre Manager's Message

By Jess Wild, Centre Manager

Welcome to the new study year!!

The energy in the centre is buzzing with more than 125 registrations already for Semester 1.

Last week we held our annual Welcome BBQ. Events like this, are a great opportunity to meet our wonderful staff and board members and make connections with fellow students! We’re so very thankful to those students and their families who were able to join us, we appreciate your support very much!

2024 is shaping up to be a big one, here at CUC Maranoa.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Level Up Your Future, career discovery program. Level Up Your Future has been designed to empower and inspire students in years7-9, by guiding self-discovery and hands-on immersive career exploration beyond what is readily seen in our region.

You may also have seen our exciting children’s book project being advertised. We have been generously supported by the Maranoa Regional Council to develop a children’s book featuring the illustrations of local year 3-6 students, showcasing their aspirations for the future.

Check out the fantastic action, with both projects below.

Our LSAs have hit the ground running this year, with LANTITE workshops for our education students and Kickstarter workshops well underway. As always, I encourage you to take full advantage of the resources available. Our team is here to help you succeed and we encourage your feedback and participation.

So here’s to kicking all your 2024 study goals!

Gingerbread Man Decorating

Annual Student BBQ

We rounded out 2023 by manning the Gingerbread Man Decorating stall at the Maranoa Xmas Street Party.

The gingerbread men, supplied by Bakaroma, were decorated by both kids and adults to create some masterpieces.   Check out the pics below to see some of the results.

We had a great night recently for our annual welcome BBQ for students and locals alike.  With good food and drinks, as well as lawn games for the kids, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

I Dream of Being...
Children's Book Illustration Competition

The CUC Maranoa community developed children’s book, featuring the aspirations and illustrations of local kids is now open!

CUC Maranoa together with Maranoa Regional Council are publishing a children's book of illustrations made by students in Yr 3-6 in the Maranoa.

The drawings will be of occupations that the students dream of being when they grow up.

We have already started to receive drawings from some of our local young artists.  Check out some of the pictures that we have seen so far.

The drawings will be judged by some of our community members and the best will be published in a book as part of book week.

Level Up Your Future!
High School
Career Discovery

Our high school career discovery project, Level Up Your Future has kicked off for Term 1.

What is Level UP your future?

The Maranoa community identified that students are unnecessarily narrowing their aspirations.

Our young people can’t be what they can’t SEE!

Level Up your future has been designed by CUC, university, school, community and industry stakeholders to inspire students in year 7-9, through highly engaging and hands-on experiences to envisage their own boundless pathway to success.

LevelUp3.jpg

We started this project off with a self-discovery day in Roma State College. With a collective team from CUC, UniSQ & headspace the students participated in tasks that got them thinking more deeply into who they are and not only their strengths but the strengths of those around them. The students then interactively generated their own AI logos and graffiti tag based around their strengths that Level Up will have printed on their own T-shirts.

"Level Up Your Future" revolves around four key themes, self-discovery, career discovery, industry close-ups.

Level UP expo will be the event of the year happening on May 17th.  This a unique ‘career taster’ immersive experience featuring engaging stations, each offering hands-on activities instead of traditional brochures. We are bringing exposure to the outback so students have the very best chance to do something they love and discover more about the world of work.

Check out the T-Shirt designs and strengths the students   came up with here.

Level Up Your Future is designed to spark students' interest in higher education, particularly those who may not have considered it before. Our aim is to broaden awareness of diverse career options, install passion for specific industries, and establish connections between school subjects and career choices.
