Manager's Message
By Jess Wild, Centre Manager
The study year of 2023 has kicked off with a bang! But first, a quick recap.
-
2022 End-of-Year Celebration
-
12 graduating students
-
Of those graduating, some are now working in the Maranoa and others have returned to CUC for postgraduate studies 2023
-
Presented bursaries to local Yr12 DUX recipients
-
Began filming for our video production with both staff and students around the centre. We look forward to sharing these exciting videos with you all soon!
We welcomed 2023 with a student BBQ. It was fabulous seeing our placement and local students being able to socialise away from the study books.
We have welcomed Glenys to our CUC Family as a new LSA while Kat is away on maternity leave.
We sadly farewelled Bec, our superhuman Centre Manager, but she'll be keeping up with everything and popping in from time to time.
An exciting opportunity to link students with potential paid employment within your field of study, has come about through our links with Roma Commerce and Tourism (RCAT). We'll be sending info and forms out for that very shortly.
On a personal note, thank you so very much for welcoming me as the new Centre Manager. Please feel free to pop in and see me with any queries, needs or ideas you may have. I'm always good for a cuppa!
Jess :)

LSA Bookings
The LSA position is aimed at working with the students to help develop their academic skills, maintain their wellbeing, and continue to build the wonderful and inclusive learning community here at CUC Maranoa.
We can help you with, but not limited to..
• Settling into study
• Tips to study effectively
• Referencing
• Writing Feedback
• Tips to manage Stress
• Academic writing
• How to prep for exams
• Study, assessment & weekly planners
• Breaking down assignment questions
• Tips to beat procrastination
• Tips to manage Stress
• Research Skills
• Or any problems or questions you may have about your studies
Office Bookings
We know the offices are fantabulous, but with our increased numbers, we are having some booking issues.
We would love if bookings for these rooms could be prioritised for those students doing exams or interactive lectures/learning.
Perhaps if you are using offices as a general study room, you could reduce your hours or switch it up a couple of times a week to the central study space, breakout room or training room.
Also, if you have a room booked and are unable to make it, please make sure you remove your booking so others can use it instead.
We hope these small changes will help solve future booking issues - thanks for your help!

A Bit About You!
Studying:
Diploma of Early Childhood and care.
About me:
I graduated last year from the Cert III in Early Childhood Education and Care. I moved from up near Burketown to Roma and finished that with TAFE here. My studies match with the work I do here.
How CUC helps:
Having the CUC here is very helpful, you can come on the weekends, at 11 o'clock at night and you can sit in the quiet. I'm interested in meeting others studying similar course and the CUC gives me a place to do that.
Studying:
Bachelor of Information Technology.
Whats going on here:
This 3D Printer is used for quickly prototyping ideas. It's a way that you can draw something up, print it out and see if it works straightaway. Anyone is welcome to use it. A program that's worth metioning is Blender - a free 3D modelling software program. Come and see me if you want to have a chat about playing with it.
